How a picture story is written for your child

Picture-book writing is a craft: few words, strong rhythm, a shape that pays off. Here is the shape every Picture to Story book follows, and where your answers go into it.

The shape of the story

Spreads 1 and 2 meet your child at home in their ordinary day. Spreads 3 and 4 start the adventure. Spreads 5 to 11 bring three escalating moments with a helper and a problem, solved with your child’s own strengths. Spreads 12 and 13 are the big moment when they save the day. Spread 14 lets the lesson land naturally, and spread 15 brings them home to something cosy.

Where your answers go

Their personality decides how they solve problems. Their favourite animal gets a role, not just a cameo. The lesson you pick is shown through what they do, never as a lecture. And because pictures carry half the story, each spread is written to be visually different from the one before.

Questions

Can I change the words?

Yes. Every book includes three free page rewrites: tell us what to change and the page is rewritten in seconds.

How does a personalised picture book from a photo work?

You add one clear photo of your child and answer a few fun questions: their name, age, favourite things and the adventure. We draw your child as the hero of a 32-page illustrated story, keeping their face, hair and skin tone recognisable on every page.

Can I see the book before I pay?

Yes. Your child’s cover and the first page of the story are made while you answer the questions, usually in under a minute, and you see them before checkout. You only pay if you love it.

How long does it take?

The digital book is usually ready about 10 minutes after you order. Printed books take 3 to 5 working days to print, then 3 to 7 days to post in the UK and US.

How much does it cost?

The digital book is $14.99. A printed paperback is $34.99 and a hardcover is $44.99, both with shipping and the digital book included. Every extra book for your family is 20% off.
